Why IPGSA Recreational League

  • Community-based: The Rec League unites over 25 cities, recreation districts, and independent teams across the Front Range.
  • Age range: Players 4–18 years old compete in 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U divisions.
  • League format: Spring season games run May through June with an End-of-Season Tournament for qualifying teams the last weekend of June.
  • Practices: Can begin at the end of March to insure fairness.
  • Focus: Fundamental skills, teamwork and sportsmanship for all experience levels.
  • Organization: IPGSA provides scheduling, umpires and fields so coaches and players can focus on the game.

League Overview

  • Games: Scheduled evening and weekend games hosted at member city fields.
  • Teams: Formed by local recreation programs and organizations; most coaches are parent volunteers supported by their city’s recreation department.
  • Support: IPGSA coordinates umpires, game balls, and league-wide rules to maintain consistency across cities.

Tune-Up Scholarship Tournament

An excellent way to prepare for the upcoming season against other Rec League teams. Celebrating 22 years.

  • Saturday, April 18 & Sunday, April 19.
  • Each team plays 1–3 games per day (up to 6 total over 2 days).
  • 58 teams participated in 2025.
  • Location: Monarch fields in Niwot (additional fields rented if needed).
  • Ages: 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U & 18U.
  • Limited space available — register early.
  • Choosing a time/day does not guarantee placement; the league will confirm assignments or issue refunds if cancelled.

Free, one-day event for all Recreational teams. For nearly 50 years, the Round Robin has brought players together from different teams to promote friendship and sportsmanship. Coaches select three players who join mixed teams to play 2–3 games in one day — no practices.

Participation is required by all Recreational League teams to be eligible for the End-of-Season (EOS) Tournament, per IPGSA By-Laws.

Coaches’ Responsibilities

  • Submit your three Round Robin participant names by May 15, 2026.
  • Include each player’s full name and parent contact information (email and phone).
  • Provide exactly two fielding positions for each player (no more).
  • Confirm that all three players will be available on May 30, 2026 before submitting.
About Jim Martinsen

Jim began coaching softball for Niwot Youth Sports in 1988 and later served on the IPGSA Board for more than 15 years, including as Treasurer. He believed that any girl could play softball and be successful, and the Round Robin Tournament was his favorite way to bring players together from across the league.

Round Robin Shirt Contest

Any IPGSA Rec player may enter. The winning design is printed on 125 shirts and earns a $50 prize. Details are on the Round Robin page.

End-of-Season (EOS) Tournament

Single-elimination event to decide the IPGSA League Champion in each age division (10U and older). Not all teams qualify — each age group advances between 3 and 8 teams depending on division size. 8U plays an EOS on the same weekend.
